What I Did This Summer
Now that the kids are back in school and lawyers are filings lawsuits again, thought I'd share the firm's highlights of the summer.
Successfully defeated a motion seeking a multi-million dollar judgment, ending the proceedings.
Successfully defeated a motion for summary disposition and, at the same hearing, winning a motion for summary disposition, eliminating over 10 claims.
Successfully defeated a motion to dismiss an eviction action (commercial property) on behalf of landlord and, after the hearing, obtaining a consent judgment.
Presented at the Real Property Law Section Summer Conference with Joe Wloszek of Hirzel Law (photo above) regarding Short Term Rentals (e.g., AirBnb): History, Recent Case Law, and Creative Argument
Served as a mediator in two matters.
Completed continuing education classes for my broker license.
Moved into a new office (same address, now on second floor).
Acquired the Oakland County Bar Association's conference room table (thanks again, OCBA!).
Recognized by Super Lawyers (Business Litigation) for a seventh consecutive year. Many thanks to my peers for voting for me.
Thanks to Derek Howard for serving as co-counsel on numerous matters (couldn't have done it without you).
Derek, Sara MacWilliams, and I are planning an office-warming party on October 3rd (5-7 p.m.). If you are interested in attending, please email me (joseph@doerrfirm.com).
